🍷Wine Wednesday Recap: Do Wine Glasses Really Matter?
Short answer: yes. Longer answer… we covered that yesterday on Wine Wednesday.
This week, I was joined by dVIN Labs and Club dVIN co-founder Rodolfo to talk all things glassware. We covered the basics—what to keep on hand, what actually changes the wine, and which shapes are worth it.
Spoiler: you don’t need ten glasses. But it does make a difference.
A few takeaways:
– Universal glasses work well for most wines. I use the Zalto Universal almost daily.
– If you’re opening something special—like a great Burgundy or Bordeaux—it’s worth matching the glass.
– Want to test it? Try the aroma trap or red wine texture test. I walked through both, and they’re easy to do at home.
We also touched on why flutes aren’t great for Champagne (sorry), why stemless isn’t always ideal, and whether crystal is actually worth the fuss. (It kind of is.)

Next Week: Wine Wednesday with John Szabo MS – Volcanic Wines
This one’s a highlight: I’ll be joined by John Szabo MS (www.johnszabo.com), Canada’s first Master Sommelier and an absolute authority on volcanic wines.
John is the award-winning author of Volcanic Wines: Salt, Grit and Power, co-founder and educational lead of Volcanic Wines International, and principal critic for WineAlign. He’s also the co-host of the podcast Wine Thieves and has shaped wine programs for top brands across Canada. His volcanic soils wines tour—from Etna to Santorini—bring unmatched depth, minerality, and salty tension to the glass.
If you’ve ever wondered what makes wine born from fire so compelling, this is your episode.
