Real Vision + dVIN: Tokenising the $100B Luxury Wine Industry
dVIN founders in Sydney for an epic Fireside following back-to-back meets in Singapore

The iconic Lulu Bar in Sydney's Rocks District buzzed with excitement as it hosted a momentous event that brought together the best minds in blockchain and wine. Hosted by Real Vision and dVIN with the support of the Australian DeFi Association, this fireside chat was a resounding success. With a packed venue, attendees were treated to exquisite wine and an enlightening discussion featuring Real Vision founder Raoul Pal, dVIN co-founder David Garrett and moderated by Real Vision's Chief Crypto Analyst Jamie Coutts. The discussion centered around the transformative potential of blockchain technology in the luxury wine industry—a topic that resonated deeply with the diverse audience of investors, partners, web3 experts, and wine enthusiasts. In case you couldn’t make it all the way to Sydney, pour yourself a glass of your finest, sit back and enjoy the full video of the event here.
“We've now empowered culture in this new technological age… Culture and brand – these things are attention, they are storytelling – and they can be now tokenised. And they can be realisable.”
— Real Vision CEO & Co- Founder, Raoul Pal
The highlights!
Opening remarks: Jamie Coutts kicked off the event with an introduction that set the tone for the evening. He praised the incredible turnout and the fantastic reception, emphasising the unique opportunity to delve into how blockchain could revolutionise the $100B global wine industry.
David Garrett’s journey: David Garrett shared his captivating genesis story, tracing his path from a tech entrepreneur to a vineyard owner in Argentina. His experiences underscored the long-term nature of the wine business and the storytelling aspect that makes wine so enchanting. Garrett's transition from coding to wine-making illustrated the blend of technology and tradition that defines dVIN's mission.
Raoul Pal on culture and tokenization: Raoul Pal's insights bridged the gap between technology and culture. He eloquently described wine as "culture in a bottle" and likened a wine bottle to an NFT, a tokenized form of culture. Pal argued that the real value of wine lies not just in the grape but in the stories, traditions and communal experiences it encapsulates. This perspective highlighted how blockchain could preserve and enhance these cultural elements, making them more accessible and valuable.
“The biggest problem in the $100 billion wine sector is that the consumer, the wine lover, and the winemaker are completely disconnected. When you think about when you open a great bottle of wine – it was typically made 10 years ago by somebody 10,000 miles away.”
— dVIN CEO & Co-Founder, David Garett

Challenges and solutions: Garrett addressed the significant challenges faced by the luxury wine industry, particularly the disconnect between producers and consumers. He explained how dVIN's technology aims to bridge this gap by providing winemakers with valuable data and direct feedback from consumers. This data-driven approach not only improves supply chain efficiency but also enhances customer acquisition and engagement.
The role of $VIN: The discussion also delved into the role of $VIN, the digital fuel powering the dVIN ecosystem. $VIN enables consumers to earn rewards for tokenizing and engaging with their favourite wines and sharing consumption data. This innovative approach incentivises loyalty and fosters a more connected and transparent wine market. Delve into the tokenomics to learn about dVIN’s Digital Corks and Tasting Tokens.
Fostering community and innovation from ‘Grape to Glass’: Throughout the evening, the speakers emphasised the importance of community and innovation in transforming the wine industry. Pal and Garrett highlighted how blockchain technology could democratise access to luxury wines, making it easier for consumers to connect with winemakers and share their experiences. This direct engagement not only benefits consumers but also empowers winemakers with the insights needed to refine their offerings with data driven decisions.
A memorable experience.
